Does Semaglutide for weight loss cause blood sugar fluctuations?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease last year, and now I have started compounded Semaglutide for weight loss. I have lost weight, but my blood sugar levels have been fluctuating unpredictably, and I feel more fatigued than usual. Could Semaglutide be affecting my metabolism, or should I be worried about worsening liver function?

Please help me.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It is great to hear that you have had some success with weight loss using Semaglutide. However, the symptoms you are experiencing are concerning and should be addressed.

Semaglutide can indeed affect blood sugar levels, as it is primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes by improving blood sugar control. Fluctuations in blood sugar levels can lead to fatigue and other symptoms. It is also important to monitor your liver function, as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) can progress and cause further complications.

I recommend discussing these symptoms with your healthcare provider. They may need to adjust your medication or investigate other potential causes for your symptoms. Please book a consultation with me if you would like more detailed information on any of these points or if you have other questions.

Feel free to follow up with any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.
