Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 50-year-old woman with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and insulin resistance. My endocrinologist prescribed Semaglutide to help with weight loss and control my blood sugar. I have lost 12 pounds in two months, but I have started noticing hair thinning and feeling more tired than usual. Could these side effects be related to the medication or my PCOS?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Both polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and Semaglutide can have various side effects, so it is important to consider both possibilities. PCOS can cause hair thinning or hair loss due to hormonal imbalances, especially higher levels of androgens (male hormones), and it can also lead to fatigue due to insulin resistance and hormonal imbalances. On the other hand, Semaglutide, although not commonly associated with hair thinning, can cause some people to experience this side effect. Fatigue is also a known side effect of Semaglutide, particularly as the body adjusts to the medication. It is essential to discuss these symptoms with your endocrinologist to determine whether they are related to the medication, PCOS, or another cause. Your doctor may adjust your treatment plan or recommend additional tests to better understand the situation. In the meantime, it is important to take care of yourself by maintaining a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and getting enough rest.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
