Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 55 and always feel constipated. Could it be IBS or a colon issue? I have seen the guidelines, but I am unsure what is right. Should I take medication? What foods can help? How often should I see a doctor? It is been going on for a long time and affecting me.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Chronic constipation can be a symptom of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and can be accompanied by abdominal pain, bloating, or irregular bowel habits. However, it may also indicate other issues, like obstructions or colorectal diseases, which may require further evaluation.
Eating more fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and drinking plenty of water can ease constipation. Over-the-counter laxatives may help, but consult your doctor before use. Regular follow-ups are essential to monitor progress and rule out serious conditions.
I hope you got an answer.
Feel free to follow up with any further questions.
Thank you.
