Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have severe asthma and mild heart disease. My cardiologist is concerned about starting a new biologic. Does Tezepelumab have any known effects on heart health? Some asthma medications can increase heart rate or cause palpitations—does Tezepelumab carry any cardiovascular risks? I want to ensure it is safe before starting, especially since I am already on medications for my heart condition. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
The effect of Tezepelumab on the cardiovascular system has not been fully established. Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) have not been specifically reported.
One clinical trial observed higher incidence rates per 100 patient-years for both serious cardiac adverse events and MACE in patients treated with Tezepelumab compared to the control group. However, the manufacturer has not provided a clear interpretation of these findings.
Potential adverse reactions may include swelling of the face, tongue, or mouth; breathing difficulties; rapid heartbeat; fainting; dizziness; lightheadedness; hives; and rash. These effects are typically temporary and are more likely to occur in cases of overdose.
It is essential to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider, especially considering your heart condition. A thorough assessment can help determine whether Tezepelumab is a safe option for you.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
