Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I accidentally scratched off my leg. I suffer from folliculitis so I assumed that is what it was. Is it okay? I have used antiseptic cream on it and kept it clean. I am a non-smoker or drinker of alcohol and currently not taking any medication.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern. Based on the picture you provided (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), seeing the entire lesion and surrounding area it looks like an infection, in the hair follicles However, based on the appearance, it is possible that this could be a bacterial infection, such as Folliculitis is a type of bacterial infection that typically appears as small, red bumps around hair follicles. It is possible that this could be a case of folliculitis that has become more severe and developed into an impetigo-like lesion. Here are some things you can do to manage the lesion:
1. Keep the area clean: Wash the area with warm water and mild soap several times a day to help prevent further infection.
2. Use an antibiotic ointment: Apply an antibiotic ointment, such as mupirocin or bacitracin, to the lesion several times a day to help fight bacteria and promote healing. Oral antibiotics like Amoxicillin should be started for quick healing
3. Avoid scratching or picking at the lesion: This can spread the infection to other areas of your body and worsen the condition.
I hope I have cleared all your doubts.
Thank you.
