Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My sleep pattern has been 'biphasic', ever since the lockdown three years ago. My sleep gets interrupted, I sleep four hours, wake up, and get back to sleep again for another two or three hours. I often hard to get back to sleep the second time. I was always a light sleeper but have never been affected similarly. It has become a routine to wake up after a couple of hours for the past three years. Hence, I often result in waking up late. Sleeping in two parts is incompatible with my work and general routine. I take melatonin and GABA supplements to help with sleep. What can be done to fix this?
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Your symptoms show sleep maintenance issues. I am not sure how much melatonin or GABA might help with it. If you are fine with taking medicines, I would suggest taking a sustained-release version of Zolpidem (Zolpidem tartrate 12.5 mg). It will prevent sleep interruptions and help you to sleep again. Take it immediately before going to bed. Consult your doctor and take the medicine accordingly. I would advise against using mobile phones or other electronic devices during the break. It will hinder getting back to sleep. I also advise some sort of relaxation like progressive muscle relaxation or breath focus, as it is likely to be helpful either done before sleep or during the break.
I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
Are there any adverse side effects I should be aware of before taking Zolpidem?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It is a relatively safe medicine. Some people may feel drowsy during the day after taking it continuously for a few weeks. I suggest you avoid caffeine in the evenings to prevent sleep breaks. You can skip Zolpidem after a couple of weeks to see if your sleep issue is resolved.
I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of more queries.
Thank you.
