What causes vaginal bumps in a sexually inactive woman?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have bumps on my vagina. They are similar to pimples. Sometimes they hurt, and sometimes they do not. When they pop, there is a fluid that comes out of them. I am not sexually active, and I am still a virgin. What should I do?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query, and I understand your concern. Some of the commonest reasons for bumps on pubic region are the following (assuming what you meant by vagina as pubic area, as vagina is usually not seen on or from the outside):

  1. Folliculitis or ingrown hair: Due to shaving or sweat, it goes away on its own. You can try warm compression.
  2. Sebaceous cysts.
  3. Bartholin cysts.
  4. Hydradenitis suppurativa.

For the last three causes, it may be treated either by antibiotics or surgery, depending on the type of issue and the presence of infection. I recommend that you see a gynecologist for a full physical examination. Wishing you a complete recovery.

Thank you.
