How can my wife manage her weight and avoid consequences?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife is 45 years old. She is obese, with a weight of 220 pounds. Could you shed light on the various factors that contribute to the development of obesity? What are the potential health consequences of obesity? How does excess weight impact various bodily systems, including cardiovascular health, metabolic function, musculoskeletal health, and mental well-being? What are some effective approaches to managing weight and preventing obesity? How important is it to adopt a balanced lifestyle that includes both a nutritious diet and regular physical activity?

Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Rajesh Jain

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

Obesity can occur due to the following:

  1. Lack of exercise.

  2. Consumption of high-calorie foods, such as oily, spicy, non-vegetarian foods, and fast foods.

  3. Taking hormone pills.

Obesity can cause hypertension, ischemic heart disease, diabetes, and hormonal disturbances. To reduce weight, I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions:

  1. Reduce calorie intake through a proper diet.

  2. Burn calories through regular exercise.

  3. Practice yoga and pranayama regularly, and go for walks.

  4. Eat more salads and fruits.

  5. Avoid drinking water during meals.

  6. Drink water one hour after meals.

These steps will help.

I hope this has helped you.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
