Can ovarian cysts delay conception?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My partner and I have been trying to have a baby for a few months. We have had no luck and no way to track it because I have irregular periods. I have been diagnosed with cysts in my ovaries, but because of waiting on health insurance, I have not had the chance to get an ultrasound done. During the summer, I was on birth control, and I kept getting my periods in the middle of the pack. I stopped during the reminder week of the third pack. I felt a cyst rupture, and two weeks later, I had a painful period. I now have not had one since and have had no signs of it, and I am still testing negative. I did try pills called Pregprep and Vitex, along with simple prenatal, but they did nothing. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You need to think positively for a positive result.

1. Age is well within normal limits. Usually, by the age of 19 to 21 years, the ovulation cycle becomes regular. Till then, the balance of hormones between the brain- pituitary & ovaries is not perfect. So I suggest you be patient.

2. Your weight is within normal limits. So no problem. Try to maintain your weight and be active with good physical exercise.

3. The balance was artificially regularized by pill, and you had ovulation, so it means over time, the ovulation will be normal.

4. Once in a while, when you do not ovulate, the unruptured follicle ends up as a cyst. It will disappear, and once your cycle is regular, new ones will not appear.

If more than 45 days have passed since your last period, have any of the birth control pills, one tablet twice a day for 10 days. No matter the cause, you will have periods within seven to 10 days. If you still want to try, have this artificial hormone cycle.

1. Take a tablet of Folic acid 5 mg daily.

2. Have tablet Clomiphene citrate 100 mg once at night for five days from day three of periods. This will recruit more follicles.

3. Do sex daily at least once from the 13 to the 18th day of the period (the first day of bleeding is day one of the period).

4. Have the tablet Duphaston (Dydrogesterone) once at bedtime from day 16 of the period. This progesterone will stabilize your endometrial lining and embryo.

So, you are pregnant if you do not have periods after this. If not pregnant, you will have periods within seven to 10 days of the last tablet.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
