Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My uncle, aged 47 years, who recently got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, is under Stelara treatment as suggested. However, he was given a Stelara 90 mg injection two days back, and now he is down with a fever, sore throat, and general weakness. Are these because of the drug or any viral infection? Do these symptoms indicate immediate medical attention? Should he be stopping this treatment? Is there any alternative to this medication? Can this disease be cured completely?
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Regarding your uncle's symptoms of fever, sore throat, and weakness with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis following a prescription of (Ustekinumab) drug medication. I propose your uncle has developed medication side effects due to a systemic inflammatory response derived from injection medications, though the symptoms are mild, and you do not be worried. He can continue with the medications, except he has more severe symptoms like confusion, lethargy, vomiting, and hematemesis. Yes, the medication side effects are possibly due to the Stelara drug injections and not a viral infection because ulcerative colitis is mainly potentiated by bacterial infection. Kindly give him the following medications.
Yes, the disease can be completely cured if you follow my above recommendation. If your symptoms persist, schedule another appointment for follow-up via chat, phone, or video consultation.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
