Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My daughter is 15 years old and has the most difficult asthma I have ever seen. She has been hospitalized six times in the last two years despite being on multiple controller medications. Currently, she takes Advair 500/50 and Montelukast and uses a rescue inhaler almost daily. Her allergist documented multiple triggers, including dust mites, pet dander, and exercise-induced asthma. Her latest pulmonary function test showed FEV1 at 64 percent predicted with significant improvement after bronchodilator. Her blood tests reveal a high eosinophil count of 780 and IgE levels at 1100. She missed 42 school days last year due to asthma complications, and her mental health is suffering from constant fear of attacks.
Her pediatric pulmonologist recommended Tezspire, but we do not understand much about this treatment. How often are injections required? Will it help reduce her allergy symptoms, too? What potential side effects should we watch for? She is terrified of needles and worried about another medication that might not work. Her current medications cause mood swings and weight gain, which added to her stress. We need comprehensive information to make an informed decision.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Tezspire (Tezepelumab) is a newer biologic therapy for severe, uncontrolled asthma, and based on your daughter’s high eosinophil count, high IgE (immunoglobulin E), and frequent hospitalizations, she could be an excellent candidate.
How does Tezspire work?
Unlike other biologics that target eosinophils like Nucala (Mepolizumab) or Dupixent (Dupilumab), Tezspire blocks thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), a key inflammatory molecule that triggers asthma symptoms. This means:
Reduces airway inflammation regardless of eosinophil or IgE levels.
It may work even for non-allergic asthma, unlike Xolair (Omalizumab), which targets IgE.
Helps prevent severe exacerbations and hospital visits.
I hope this has helped you.
Please feel free to reach out to me again if you have further queries.
Thank you.
