Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am currently using Xolair (Omalizumab) for my severe asthma. But I am still having frequent flare-ups. My main symptoms are nighttime wheezing and exercise-induced attacks. My doctor advised Tezspire as an alternative. How does it compare to Xolair in terms of effectiveness? I have heard Tezspire works differently and might be better for people with allergic asthma. Also, how long before I know if it is working?
Please help me.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
I would like you to know that Tezspire (Tezepelumab) is as effective as Xolair (Omalizumab) for the maintenance of your asthma symptoms. Both these drugs are not for acute attacks and are to be used only for maintenance therapy.
Both drugs have a success rate of more than 75 %. Although both drugs work differently. Xolair reduces the allergic mediators in the body, while Tezspire works in a different way to reduce airway inflammation.
You can switch to Tezspire, but in case you are unknowingly allergic to it, it may cause a severe anaphylactic reaction, which is life-threatening, so kindly take the first dose in a healthcare facility in the presence of a doctor.
Feel free to follow up with any further questions or concerns.
Thank you.
