Can Tezepelumab help manage asthma and sinusitis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have suffered from severe allergic asthma for years and also struggle with chronic sinusitis, often accompanied by nasal polyps. My pulmonologist recommended Tezspire, but I noticed that, unlike Dupixent, it is not specifically indicated for treating nasal polyps. Would Tezspire still help with my chronic sinus issues, or is it strictly for asthma control? Additionally, how soon should I expect to see results after starting it?

I have tried multiple inhalers and steroid nasal sprays, but my symptoms keep recurring. If Tezspire could help with both conditions, it would be life-changing. What are your thoughts?

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concerns.

Tezspire (Tezepelumab) is primarily indicated for severe asthma and works by targeting a specific pathway involved in the inflammatory process. While it is not specifically approved for the treatment of nasal polyps, its anti-inflammatory effects may offer some benefits for chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps. However, its effectiveness for these conditions is not as well-established as treatments like Dupixent (Dupilumab), which is specifically approved for nasal polyps.

You may begin to notice improvements in your asthma symptoms within a few weeks of starting Tezepelumab, though the full benefits could take a few months to become apparent. It is important to continue using your other prescribed treatments and follow up with your healthcare provider to monitor your progress.

Given your history of persistent symptoms despite multiple treatments, discussing the potential benefits and risks of Tezepelumab with your pulmonologist is essential. They can help determine whether it might provide additional relief for your chronic sinus issues or if an alternative treatment approach would be more effective.

Please feel free to book a consultation with me if you would like more detailed information on any of these points or have any other questions.

Thank you.
