How can I overcome negative thoughts developed due to failed relationship?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was in love with a guy for the past five years. I got engaged with him three months back after convincing my family. I felt he had lied, and his promises were fake after the engagement. I told my parents, and they broke my engagement with him in ten days. Now I feel like running away from all this and do not want to stay home. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

You are going through a hard time. This phase will pass. Running away is not a solution, but accepting and moving ahead is. I know it is easier said than done, but you must move on. Some simple steps that can be of help:

  1. Practice relaxation techniques like breath relaxation exercise daily. It will help you relax and focus.

  2. Share your feelings with family or close friends, as sharing feelings helps.

  3. Maintain a stress diary and daily log down your thoughts uncensored. Never read them again.

  4. Follow a flexible routine and exercise regularly and take a balanced diet. Try to focus on your life goals.

Remember, all problem has a solution. You just need to try solving it help is just a step away. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
