Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My partner and I tried to conceive yesterday and two days ago. Today, at my workplace, there is a possibility that a child has rubella (German measles). I am immune to rubella, but if there is any chance that I might be pregnant, could this exposure have any effect on my pregnancy?
Please help
Hello,
Welcome to iCliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
If you are immune to rubella, meaning you have received the rubella vaccine or had prior exposure to the virus, you are protected from contracting it, even if someone around you has rubella. Therefore, if you become pregnant, it will not affect your pregnancy or your baby, as your immunity prevents any risk of rubella infection. However, if you are unsure about your immunity or have not received the rubella vaccine, it would be advisable to confirm your immunity through a blood test. Rubella infection during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester, can be harmful and may lead to birth defects, but since you are immune, this should not be a concern. To clarify, if you do conceive and you are confirmed to be immune to rubella, there is no risk of the virus affecting your pregnancy.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
