How to manage post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My skin was doing well, but after shaving recently, my skin started to peel. On my right cheek, I noticed some bumps and enlarged pores, and after a while, the peeling began. I used to rub it, and as a result, I developed black spots on my right cheek and under my eye area. There are also pores scattered throughout my skin. Additionally, I have post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and dark spots caused by previous acne, along with small pores and bumps.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

Regarding your symptoms, I believe you have developed a post-shaving hyperpigmented skin lesion. I suggest you reduce the frequency of shaving, as your skin seems to be in a delicate state. In the meantime, I suggest you use the following:

  1. A tablet of Minocycline 500 mg orally three times a day for one week.

  2. Apply 2 % Resorcinol topically once daily, or 0.1 % Tretinoin topically twice a day,

  3. 20 % Azelaic Acid once daily, or 5 % Dapsone gel once daily for one month.

Please let us know if you have any further queries. We would be happy to answer.

Thank you.
