Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am getting orthognathic surgery, but there is an issue with the upper right side being too expanded. How long does it usually take to fix that alignment?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
It usually takes a few months to two years to fix the alignment, depending on how severe the issue is. Since you need orthognathic surgery, it is likely a skeletal problem. If I could see your X-rays, photographs, or cephalometric analysis, I would be able to assess your facial symmetry and give a better idea of the treatment plan. I can also provide a second opinion after reviewing your records.
I hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any other concerns.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you very much for your time and expertise.
I am seeking your opinion on my cone beam computed tomography scan, which I have attached. I am under the care of a surgeon and orthodontist, preparing for orthognathic surgery as a class II patient. There is concern about the dental torque on one side of my mouth, and I am unsure if it could affect the surgery. Could you let me know if this is a problem? If so, what steps are needed to fix it, and how long might it take before surgery can proceed?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I will respond to your questions shortly. Thanks for following up. I just need some time to review your files. I will get back to you in an hour.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Regards
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I have been in treatment for over 20 months, and my surgeon says the upper right side is over-expanded. Honestly, I do not see it. To me, the alignment looks fine for surgery, but I am starting to wonder if the surgeon is being too picky.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Twenty months is a bit of a long time. Typically, treatment for class III malocclusion takes about 18 months. If the upper right side is over-expanded, it likely will not affect the surgery results. If you want, I can write a letter to your surgeon suggesting they control the torque quickly or move forward with the surgery.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Regards
