Is it possible to develop angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma by being in close contact with the patient?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a friend recently diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma. She has a family history of lymphoma, her father was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma two years ago, and her aunt died because of lymphoma. I am a nurse, and I have studied lymphoma a lot. In some articles, it was written that these two kinds of lymphoma are because of EBV. The role of genetic factor is unclear. In another article, it was written that some kinds of EBV are more powerful in causing lymphoma named wild type. My question is that maybe having three lymphoma patients in one family is because of a dangerous type of EBV that is more powerful to change our genes or because of other infections and may having close contact with her or kissing her or having contact with her saliva cause me develop lymphoma some years later or at least increase the risk of developing lymphoma? Is it safe to have close contact with her? Help me, please I am too stressed and worried.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is always an interplay between the host environment and genetics.

Even if she has EBV-induced lymphoma. In my opinion, has a genetic makeup that makes her more prone to develop lymphoma.

There are non-reports of lymphoma being spread through close contact. Although EBV will need a susceptible genetic environment to cause lymphoma. So you need not get stressed about it.

Thank you.
