Patient's Query
Hello,
I have had issues with digestion. For the past few months, every now and then I have an urge to use the bathroom but nothing will come out besides mucus. I notice mucus when I wipe. There has been no incontinence as yet and I have a bowel movement at least once a day. I had a colonoscopy 8 years back which returned clear results as well as being diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome and mild lactose intolerance. The IBS causes loose stools to constipation each day. Do you think the mucus is from the IBS or could it be something else? How should I treat this? Should I be concerned about this?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
From your description you appear to be suffering from IBS, along with that I suspect that you are having some internal rectal prolapse. You would need to see a local gastroenterologist to rule that one out.
However, in the meantime taking a high-fiber diet would help improve symptoms and decrease the need for straining. Follow up with your medical records if you need any more information or help with the diet.
Hope this helps.
