What causes irregular menstrual cycles and prolonged bleeding?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing irregular menstrual cycles for the past two years. Recently I started exercising, and my periods have been unusual. It has been 21 days of irregular bleeding, and I am worried. Unfortunately, I am unable to visit a doctor at the moment due to some personal constraints, but I am concerned about this prolonged and irregular bleeding.

Could you please advise on what might be causing this and any steps I could take to address the situation until I can see a doctor?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I have read your query and can understand your concern. Regarding your symptoms, I strongly believe you may have developed irregular menses due to hormonal imbalance, medication side effects, an infection, or a thyroid condition. However, the most likely cause seems to be hormonal imbalance.

Recommendations:

Hormone profile test:Please get a hormone profile test done and share the results for further evaluation.

Medication: You may take one tablet of Medroxyprogesterone 10 mg PO twice a day for once a month to help regulate your cycle.

I hope this helps. If you have more concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out by scheduling a direct appointment or following up via chat, phone, or video consultation

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
