Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had my period last month and had unprotected sex on the fourth day of my period. I took an I-Pill the very next day within 24 hours time span. After seven days of taking the pill, I am now experiencing bleeding. Is it withdrawal bleeding? Do I need to take a pregnancy test after the bleeding stops? I also took an I-Pill two months ago but did not experience abnormal bleeding back then.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

According to your description, you already had intercourse on a safe day, so there was no need for an unnecessary emergency contraceptive pill. It may disturb your menstrual cycle. Yes, the bleeding you got must be withdrawal bleeding, and you do not need to do a pregnancy test as the is no chance of pregnancy.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

How long does withdrawal bleeding last? I am experiencing only two days of bleeding. Today on the third day, I have no bleeding. Is it a sign of hidden pregnancy? Shall I take a pregnancy test after a few days? And if it is not pregnancy, will the new cycle start from the first day of my withdrawal bleeding?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There is no need for a pregnancy test as you had intercourse on a safe day when pregnancy would not happen. Withdrawal bleeding may last one to five days, which is normal. You can expect your periods on your regular due date, or it may fluctuate by one week due to hormonal changes as you take the contraceptive pill.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much for the reply.

Does taking contraceptive pills affect fertility and future pregnancy?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It would not affect your fertility as it is a well-balanced hormonal pill. Yes, it may disturb your menstrual cycle for two to three months if you unnecessarily take it randomly.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
