Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been noticing this burning sensation in my chest, especially after I eat.
Could that be gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or something similar?
Sometimes I get a sour or bitter taste in my mouth, which is pretty unpleasant. Any idea why that happens?
I have also realized my symptoms seem to get worse after eating certain foods or late at night. Could what I am eating or when I am eating be the problem?
Could lying down after meals make things worse too?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.
According to your symptoms, burning sensation, dyspepsia, and sour bitter taste after eating food are the most likely causes of GERD or gastric ulcer. Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a condition in which stomach acid repeatedly flows back up into the tube connecting the mouth and stomach, called the esophagus. It is often called GERD for short. This backwash is known as acid reflux, and it can irritate the lining of the esophagus.
Factors that can aggravate acid reflux include:
Smoking.
Eating large meals or eating late at night.
Eating certain foods, such as fatty or fried foods.
Drinking certain beverages, such as alcohol or coffee.
Taking certain medicines, such as Aspirin.
Suddenly lying down after eating food.
Treatment.
You must avoid all the aggravating factors that I have mentioned above.
Try to drink cold milk before you sleep at night and any time you feel a burning sensation in the chest.
Tablet Omeprazole 40mg one tablet half an hour before meal two times a day continuously.
If you follow my plan and avoid aggravating factors, I assure your symptoms will subside.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
