What could be the cause for feeling hungry within a few minutes after eating, phlegm and feeling tired indicate a parasitic infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I eat after feeling really hungry. However, after eating, my stomach hurts for about ten minutes, and then I feel hungry again! I have also noticed that I have quite a bit of phlegm in my throat and I feel more tired. I had done swimming in some dirty water. Could it be a parasite infection? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

It could most probably be due to acidity and gastritis. Do you also have nausea, bloating, burping, sour water feeling in your throat, or chest burning? These are the other symptoms that may be associated. I suggest you follow:

1. Avoid fatty, oily, and spicy diet.

2. Take a walk after having food, instead of taking a rest.

3. Have multiple small meals instead of three heavy meals.

4. Have regular sleep habits.

5. Avoid stress.

6. Consume a lot of green leafy vegetables and fruits.

7. Avoid smoking and alcohol.

I suggest you take tablet Pan DSR 40 mg (Domperidone 30 mg and Pantoprazole 40 mg) or Esomeprazole domperidone combination before breakfast once a day for two weeks. If not adequately relieved, then you should add syrup Sucral O (Sucralfate 1000 mg and Oxetacaine 10 mg) or Gelusil (Activated Dimethicone I.P., Magnesium hydroxide Paste- 250 mg, Aluminum hydroxide 250 mg, Sorbitol solution 70 percent) two teaspoon three times a day for a week. For immediate pain relief, you can have an antispasmodic tablet Dicyclomine 20, or Hyoscine 10 mg whenever needed up to three times a day. There is no harm in deworming with Tab Bandy plus (Ivermectin 6 mg and Albendazole 400 mg) once before bedtime which has to be repeated after two weeks. Consult your doctor and take medicines accordingly. You could get a stool routine examination done for cyst and ova.

Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.

Thank you.
