How long do the delivery stitches take to heal?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I delivered a child last month, and my stitches have not healed. I am 30 years old, my height is 5.2 feet, and my weight is 83.7 pounds. Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You had delivered a baby a month ago, so sometimes vaginal episiotomy stitches take time to heal. I suggest you take some precautions as follows:

  1. Avoid excessive pressure while passing stools.

  2. Keep the surrounding area clean with soap and water. Splash water in the surrounding area after using the washroom.

  3. Use Betadine ointment.

  4. Sitz bath: This means sitting in a hot water tub after adding some mild antiseptic like Dettol daily.

All these will help you in the early healing of the stitches. If you still have pain or bleeding, kindly visit your gynecologist for the same. I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
