How to deal with depression and an inferiority complex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from depression and an inferiority complex. I failed to qualify for the admission test. However, the shattered dream causes me immense pain. It is hard to express how deeply depressed I feel. I have always been a bright student, but this failure has made my life difficult.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I encourage you to screen yourself for clinical depression. You can do a self-rating test like Zung’s Self-Rating Depression Scale, which is easily accessible online. If the results indicate depression, I recommend consulting a psychiatrist, either through this platform or nearby.

Remember, we do not have control over every situation, and not everything goes as planned. But that does not mean we stop trying. I know it is easier said than done, but you must move forward by giving it one more try or finding contentment with what you have. Not everyone achieves what you have, and you should be proud of your efforts.

Here are a few things that may help:

  1. Practice relaxation techniques, such as breathing exercises, for at least half an hour each morning.

  2. Share your feelings with family or close friends, as talking about your emotions can be beneficial.

  3. Dedicating at least one hour daily to your hobbies can help distract and uplift your mood.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
