Can canker sores cause flu-like symptoms without fever?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a large group of canker sores and tartar all over the roof of my mouth. Today, out of nowhere, I have experienced flu-like symptoms except a fever. Is it possible to have a correlation between the two?

Thank you.

Hi

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your question and I can understand your concern.

Flu, like symptoms except fever, can be because of reasons like dehydration, severe exertion, or anxiety. Aphthous ulcers also precipitate like this but the pain is most severe in aphthous ulcers.

So you do not worry, take Paracetamol 500 mg twice daily and use local 0.1% Triamcinolone Acetonide ointment twice a day on canker sore you will be fine.

If you want to get a clear opinion send me a picture of the lesion on the roof of the mouth, and I will provide you proper diagnosis of what it is (aphthous or viral lesion).

I hope my answer will help you and visit us back if you have any questions further.

Regards.
