Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My neighbor’s father was admitted to the hospital with fever and low blood pressure, and the doctors found Candida auris in his bloodstream. We had never heard of it before, but the doctors appeared very concerned. They mentioned that it is difficult to treat and can spread within hospitals. He also has diabetes and some kidney issues. His family is very frightened because he is not responding well to the treatment thus far. How dangerous is this infection, and what are his chances of recovery? Are there specific antifungal medications that are most effective? Additionally, how can hospitals ensure that it does not spread to other patients?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Candida auris is a hospital-acquired infection. It is a very dangerous fungal infection, especially for elderly patients with diabetes and kidney issues. The standard treatment involves dual antifungal therapy for at least 21 days. It is advisable to start treatment with Voriconazole and Caspofungin (Cancidas) for a minimum of 21 days.
I hope this information helps you.
Please let us know if you have any further queries.
Thank you.
