Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 28-year-old male. I have IgE levels of 1412 and 865 IU/mL respectively. My absolute eosinophil levels are 750 and 220 cells per microliter of blood. My TSH levels remain high. I am allergic to dust, eggplants, and perfumes. I do not use any face creams because they cause my eyes to water excessively, often for hours, and lead to a burning sensation and acne-prone skin. My main concern is about occasional coughing for more than two years. Can this be asthma? What steps can I take for further evaluation and prompt management?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
As per the limited information provided, let us go through one by one.
Your TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) level remains high, which indicates hypothyroidism (poor functioning of the thyroid gland). Since when have you known it is high? Are you taking any medication for it? If yes, then you may need to increase the dose and monitor regularly. If you are not on any medication for your thyroid, I recommend you first get a complete thyroid test: TSH, T3 (triiodothyronine), T4 (thyroxine), Anti-thyroid antibodies, and thyroid scan. Only after these tests can a treatment plan be decided.
Your IgE (Immunoglobulin E - An antibody associated with allergic reactions and asthma) level and eosinophil counts are high due to your allergic condition. You already know that you are allergic to a few things. Please avoid those trigger factors you are allergic to. Dust is a real challenge, but try to avoid it as much as possible.
You experience a cough intermittently, which could simply be due to an allergy. If you do get a regular night cough or have any wheezing (noisy breathing), then yes, it can be allergic asthma (a type of asthma triggered by allergens).
These issues require more detailed information to plan for proper management.
Meanwhile, for your allergy, I suggest you take the below-mentioned medications:
Tablet Claritin (Loratadine) 10 mg - one tablet daily for 10 days
Tablet Singulair (Montelukast) 5 mg - one tab daily for three months.
Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly. Connect with me along with thyroid reports and detailed information to plan for thyroid and asthma treatment if needed. I suggest you consult an allergic specialist and an endocrinologist.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
