What could be the cause of swollen lips, nose and eyes after being intimate?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Two days ago, I was with a guy I had been dating for a few months. After a while of making out, I felt that my lips were swollen, and then I remembered that my lips and eyes slightly swelled up a month before that after being intimate with him. So I looked in the mirror, and my lips, nose, and eyes were very (remove very) swollen. The swelling gradually decreased throughout the rest of the day. And I was almost all gone the next day. I took an antihistamine pill, and it helped. Generally, my hands and feet swell up sometimes due to sudden temperature changes or pressure, so it is relevant. I am 23 years old and do not have any relevant medical history. I am really curious as to what caused the swelling. I do not have any food allergies, and the kissing did involve some biting and sucking, but nothing too drastic to cause such an effect. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

I have read your query and understand your concern. I suggest you maintain strict hygiene. Make sure your partner does not have any medical problems or allergies. Get physically examined and investigated to rule out any medical condition and treat accordingly. Investigations such as hematogram, blood sugar, BP (blood pressure), and others. Get back to me with reports. Also, attach a picture if possible to guide you better. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
