Why am I facing challenges in losing weight at the age of 22?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old female, and I have been facing challenges in losing weight at a pace comparable to how I gained it. Despite my best efforts during the summer, where I incorporated intermittent fasting, eliminated sugar, and focused on a diet of fresh and healthy foods for three months, I managed to lose only about 13.23 pounds. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I have regained 11.02 pounds. I am concerned that I might have a low metabolism and would like guidance on how to address this issue in a healthy and effective manner. Any advice on boosting metabolism and sustainable weight loss would be greatly appreciated .Kindly help.

Thank you.

What’s the best diet for weight loss?

Many people wonder about the best diet for weight loss once they decide to shed pounds. Instead of resorting to fad diets, successful weight loss often involves making a permanent shift towards healthier eating habits. This means replacing unhealthy foods with nutritious options for the long term. A healthy diet includes natural, unprocessed foods, a balance of nutrients, an emphasis on plant-based foods, ample protein, low sugar and salt, and healthy fats like those found in fish and olive oil.

Examples of healthy meals include bran flakes with strawberries and walnuts for breakfast, a turkey sandwich with vegetables and olive oil dressing for lunch, and a salmon steak on a bed of spinach for dinner. Healthy snacks for weight loss can include almonds, pistachios, string cheese with an apple, Greek yogurt, or a banana with peanut butter.

Lose Weight and Keep It Off:

Successful weight loss involves becoming aware of behaviors and making positive changes. This report offers various solutions tailored to individual needs, focusing on skill power rather than willpower.

What is the healthiest diet?

There is no single "healthiest" diet, but several styles have been designed for optimal health. Common features include a plant-based focus, healthy fats, no simple sugars, low sodium, and a preference for natural foods. The Mediterranean diet, DASH(dietary approaches to stop hypertension) diet, and MIND(Mediterranean-DASH intervention for neurodegenerative delay) diet are examples. These diets emphasize minimally processed fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, and lean proteins, providing benefits beyond weight loss, such as a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other health issues.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
