Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a water purifier for drinking water. But I drank tap water a few days back without my knowledge as the tap was near the tap attached with a water purifier. The water comes from the underground sump attached to a borewell and drinking water provided in our locality. I am concerned about hepatitis and typhoid. I do not have symptoms like fever or vomiting. I do not have blood pressure or diabetes.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The groundwater sources can be contaminated with germs, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, and chemicals, like fertilizers and pesticides. The diseases that you are at risk with groundwater transmission are bacterial gastroenteritis (due to escherichia coli, shigella, campylobacter), cholera, typhoid, and parasitic infestations (worm infestations), or hepatitis A and E. The tap water that you drink is not used by other people, and the same water gets water purified. Therefore, unless there is a community widespread of infectious disease or contamination of wastewater from the toilet, there is less risk, and do not worry about communicable infectious diseases by the oro-fecal or gastrointestinal route. Follow up if you notice any symptoms. Drink boiled water.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor for the reply,
Two years back, I had a cyst formation due to parasite infestation. My doctor told me it was because of the pork meat which I consumed four years back. I took anti-parasite medication and recovered. I ate pork or ham meat from a standard restaurant before a few weeks. Should I take tablets for deworming?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Uncooked or semi-cooked pork meat causes parasite infestations like toxoplasma gondii, sarcocystis, trichinella spiralis, or tapeworm. Tapeworm is the most common worm infestation from pork. Tapeworm eggs can be detected in the stool 2 to 3 months after the tapeworm infection. Since you have mentioned that you had taken the meat from a standard restaurant, it is unlikely to be a new source. Since you have a previous history of worm infestation, I suggest anti-worm medications. Take a stool test if you detect tapeworm or worm segments in the stool. Take a CBC (complete blood count) and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) test. Please share your earlier prescriptions so that we can discuss the treatment. Avoid consuming uncooked, raw, or partially cooked pork.

Thank you doctor for the reply,
I have attached the reports for review.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
From the reports attached (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), your were diagnosed with cysticercosis (tapeworm infestation) and tuberculosis. Did you take any follow up tests after recovery? You do not require any treatment if you are asymptomatic. Take chest X-ray and USG (ultrasonography) chest and abdomen.
