This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have redness, itchiness, and a burning sensation in the vulva. I also have white discharge without a foul smell. Why?

Please guide.

Answered by Dr. Ali Osman

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I am deeply concerned about your worries. Symptoms of vaginal yeast infection include:

  1. Itching or burning in or around the vagina.

  2. Thick white discharge resembling cottage cheese.

  3. Redness and swelling around the vulva and vagina.

  4. Small cuts or tiny cracks in the skin of the vulva.

  5. Burning sensation when urinating.

  6. Pain during sex.

Symptoms of a yeast infection can feel like symptoms of other conditions that affect your vagina. Contact a healthcare provider if you have any of these symptoms so they can examine you.

An overgrowth of a fungus called Candida causes a vaginal yeast infection.

Fungus lives in several places within your body. It is supposed to be there. Other bacteria help keep its growth under control. But certain factors throw off this balance.

When this happens, Candida multiplies out of control, leading to a yeast infection.

I suggest the following for management:

  1. Clotrimazole 100 mg vaginal tablet, one tablet at night for eight days.

  2. Take tablet fluconazole 150 mg, take the first tablet, then after 72 hours, the second tablet, and again after 72 hours, the third tablet.

I assure you that if you take these medications, you will become fine; if you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I hope this answers your query. Feel free to reach out anytime.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Can you please suggest any ointment for the same along with the tablet?

Please guide.

Answered by Dr. Ali Osman

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I will advise you to use the vaginal cream. You can apply Canestan vaginal cream (Clotrimazole) at night for eight days. Do not combine Canestan vaginal cream and Clotrimazole vaginal tablet 100 mg; use one of them.

I hope this answers your query.

Feel free to reach out anytime.

Thank you.
