Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 26 years old. Yesterday night, I went out with my friends and I drank for the first time. We drank quite a lot and my last drink was a glass of red wine. After coming back, I felt sick and puked. My vomit was red colored. I vomited quite a lot. I was wondering if it was blood, but then it was so much that I do not know I would be standing after vomiting so much blood. I do not have any other symptoms. I am otherwise fit. It happened last night and I am perfectly fine since morning. I was wondering if it could have been blood and do I need an endoscopy or was it the red wine coloring the vomit?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Nothing to worry much. It will be most probably the wine with some amount of gastric juice. Retching during vomiting will cause small erosion and bleed. This is a self-limiting one.
Just observe the color of your stools for the next three days. If the stools are yellow (as usual), then you can leave it alone. If it is black (like hair or tar), then you have to get a blood test done and probably consider endoscopy.
Hope your queries have been cleared. Do revert if you have any further concerns.

Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I observed my stool for two days. It is almost yellow. Today evening, it was mostly yellow with little dark (dark brown) areas but I have noticed that a lot of times. It was not like my whole stool was tarry black or anything like that. I am also taking iron supplements from yesterday. So, that might have caused the dark area? Other than that, I am absolutely fine with no abdominal discomfort or any health issue. My biggest worry is malignancy. I want to know if I should leave it behind and stop worrying about it.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It is good that there is no discoloration of stools and you are symptom-free. Well, iron supplements can cause mild discoloration.
Nothing to worry of malignancy as of now. Stop those thoughts. Keep a close watch for any new issues. Do not get tensed unnecessarily.
Do let me know if any fresh issue. Be careful when you party next time.

Thank you doctor,
I would like to add that my vomit was fresh red color, not brown and I forgot to mention I also had doritos in the evening which was red in color with red dusting on them. Do I still need to monitor my stool?
What are the chances of GI malignancy in young people? I am sorry I am being like this, but I want to put this behind me and stop worrying.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
No need to monitor further.
GI (gastrointestinal) malignancies are less common in young. The presentation is not typical for you. The only way to confirm is to get an endoscopy done. This I would suggest only if any further signs pop up.
