Can I take vitamin A tablet to improve my vision?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I wear specs. Can I take vitamin A chewable tablets daily to make my vision good? Will it cause any problem? Kindly share your advice.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Unlike common perception, taking Vitamin A does not improve eyesight or decrease spectacle number. It only prevents night blindness and xerosis. So, vitamin A supplements will not help. Vitamin A in excess amount is extremely harmful and has a potential to raise intracranial pressure amongst others. So, please do not self-medicate. For your glass numbers, consider LASIK procedure.I hope I have addressed your concerns. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions. Thank you.
