What is the treatment for eye twitching?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My left eye has been twitching for about three to four days, and when it first started, I was working out, so I just thought I was over-exerting myself, but now it happens when I am resting. Last night, it was about 10 PM, and I was so sensitive to the lights, meaning it hurt to keep my eyes open, which never happens. I do not wear glasses or contacts, and I have always had really good vision. I do not have any vision changes, and it does not feel like I have anything in my eye. However, I have not been getting a lot of sleep lately, and I feel very fatigued throughout the day. Could this be affecting my uncontrollable eye spasms? And what else causes eye twitching? Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The following are the reasons for twitching:

  • Stress.
  • Lack of sleep.
  • Dehydration or electrolyte imbalance.

Reduce intake of tea or coffee or caffeinated drinks, rehydration should be done with electrolyte rich drinks like coconut water or skimmed milk or sports drinks. Keep freshly cut cucumbers over eye lids for 15 minutes every night. Massage the area just below lower eyelid gently with two fingers. Take eye drops six times a day regularly.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
