Are runny nose and throat pain symptoms of an infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 22 years old. I have had a runny nose for two days, and I even get a cough at night along with throat pain. I get relief after consuming hot beverages, but I start sneezing again after some time. Do I have an infection, or is it just a common cold?

Please help me get rid of my issue.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms you are experiencing are mostly due to a viral infection. I suggest you take the following medications and follow the instructions given below.

  1. Take a tablet of Azithromycin 500 mg twice daily for three days.
  2. Tablet Allegra M (Montelukast and Fexofenadine) once daily for five days.
  3. Take the syrup Corex DX (Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide) 5 ml three times a day for three days.
  4. Do warm salt water gargles and steam inhalation four to five times a day.
  5. Avoid oily and spicy food. Do not have junk food and cold foodstuffs such as ice cream and cold drinks.

Kindly see a specialist, talk with them, and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this helped you out.

Thanks and regards.
