What is the medical treatment for varicose veins?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My dad has had varicose veins for the last 10 years. It is not troubling, but it is uncomfortable. Please let me know what treatments are available for it, other than surgery, and which is the best option with no side effects or complications.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The only option with no side effects or complications is just compression stockings. However, every situation has a different need and will have a distinct best solution. And to recommend that I need to know his situation in depth. Stocking is not the most effective for any condition other than mild early disease. Please follow up with his past medical records, a Doppler investigation, if done, and multiple pictures of his legs, shins, and ankles (on the inner side of his legs). Also, mention whether he had any other diseases, allergies, and any medications he takes. That way, I can advise you on what is best for him. Also, mention where you want to seek treatment.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
