Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 23 years old, 5 feet tall, and weigh 119 pounds. I have been married for three years and not pregnant yet. I used to gain weight but was not overweight. I never took birth control pills and I am currently taking vitamin D (50000 IU) pills once a week for two months. I have flat feet. I neither smoke nor drink alcohol. I used to exercise regularly, but currently, I do not exercise due to mild pain and I am scared that it would become worse. So, I just walk. I follow a healthy diet. Before three years, I had pain in my right leg that would hurt so much, and found that I had a small green vein behind my right knee with little spider veins. So, I started to exercise regularly and kept my legs elevated. With that, the pain went away but came back if I worked a lot.
I did not know that I am supposed to wear compression stockings. But now, the pain in my legs would not go away and more veins are noticeable than before and are present behind my left knee too. I could feel pain behind my knees and mildly in my calves, but the pain in my right leg is more and does not go away like before even if I rest. The pain is bearable. Recently, I noticed prominent veins in my feet, ankle, shin, and near my wrist and found that it could be due to the reticular veins which I have. I noticed reticular veins behind my knees and the veins in my feet are visible when I stand up. On touching, I can feeI the veins popping including the veins in my arms which pops out when I carry something. The veins on my shin too are visible.
I went to the doctor and did an ultrasound to check if it was anything dangerous. I have taken blood test, vitamin D and vitamin B12 tests before two months. The doctor told me that I can take pills to get rid of the pain and do sclerotherapy so that the veins do not spread. I would like to know if the pain and the prominent veins in my feet, shin, ankle, and around the wrist would go away with sclerotherapy. Will it improve blood flow? Are reticular veins responsible for visible veins? I am scared since the veins in my feet and shin pops out a little when I stand.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
You have mild varicose veins. If the pain is mild, then no need to do anything. If the pain is more, then you need to opt for sclerotherapy. However, you need to keep your legs elevated and use pressure stockings to prevent the condition from deteriorating further. I would also like to know the following:
Thank you.
