Can shaving and douching cause vaginal irritation?

I am 22 years old. I have had vaginal irritation, especially after shaving and douching. Why so?

Never ever do douching as it is a cause of burning and irritation. Follow these preventive measures:

Avoid scented pads or toilet paper, creams, bubble baths, feminine sprays, and douches.
Use water and a plain, unscented soap to regularly clean your external genital area. But do not wash more than once a day. Doing so can increase dryness.
Always wipe from front to back after urination and defecation.
Wear cotton panties (no synthetic fabrics), and change your underwear every day.
Do not douche.
Use vaseline as a moisturizer.
Do not scratch.
