What causes vaginal dryness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My vagina is extremely itchy, with redness and inflammation. Despite the extreme dryness, there is no discharge or smell. Can you give me some advice on how I can fix this? Taking Tylenol helps me. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

It seems that you are experiencing symptoms of vaginal irritation, redness, itching, and dryness without discharge or odor. While Tylenol (Acetaminophen) may provide some relief for discomfort, it is important to address the underlying cause of these symptoms.

Here are a few recommendations that may help:

  1. Avoid irritants: Ensure you are not using harsh soaps, scented products, or douches, which can cause further irritation.

  2. Maintain proper hygiene: Gently cleanse the area with water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat the area dry rather than rubbing.

  3. Moisturize: You may consider using a water-based vaginal moisturizer to alleviate dryness. Be cautious about avoiding petroleum-based products.

  4. Wear breathable clothing: Choose loose, cotton underwear and avoid tight-fitting clothing to allow airflow and reduce moisture retention.

  5. Hydrate and stay balanced: Drinking plenty of water and maintaining a balanced diet can help improve vaginal health.

  6. Cold compress: Applying a cool compress to the irritated area can soothe inflammation.

If the symptoms persist, worsen, or are accompanied by other concerns, such as burning during urination or worsening itching, it would be advisable to consult the nearest doctor to rule out potential infections or other conditions.

I hope this information will help you.

Kindly revert in case of queries.

Thank you.
