What medications help treat vaginal itching and a thick non-smelly vaginal discharge?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have itching around my vagina. I feel good when I use hot water. I have some thick non-smelly discharge. This is because I take the tablet Augmentin.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From the attached images (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), it looks like a yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis. Therefore, I suggest you take antibiotics, analgesics, and antihistamines along with douching of the vagina with an antiseptic solution and vaginal pessary (consult a specialist doctor, talk with him or her, and take medications with their consent).

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

Please suggest some medications for my problem.

Answered by Dr. Pandian. P

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you take the following medications for five to seven days (consult a specialist doctor, talk with him or her, and take medications with their consent.):

  1. Tablet Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily after food.
  2. Tablet Metronidazole 200 mg thrice daily after food.
  3. Tablet Levocetirizine once daily after food.
  4. Tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before food.
  5. Cansoft-CL (Clindamycin and Clotrimazole) vaginal pessary for three days. The pessary should be kept well deep in the vagina during bedtime.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

Should I stop taking the tablet Amoxicillin? I started taking the tablet Amoxicillin last week, so I am still on it. Do you think this caused the infection? I initially took the tablet Ciprofloxacin for four days. So, should I take it again?

Answered by Dr. Pandian. P

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you stop taking the tablet Amoxicillin. Suppose you have already taken the tablet Ciprofloxacin. In that case, I suggest you take the tablet Doxy (Doxycycline) twice a day for five days (consult a specialist doctor, talk with him or her, and take medications with their consent). However, vaginal douching with an antiseptic solution is important.
