Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
The internal wall of my vagina has a lump. It was asymptomatic earlier, but in the last few weeks, I have been experiencing an itching sensation in that particular area. The lump has also grown larger in size and has become hard. However, it is painless.
What could this be?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern.
According to your history, I think it could be a vaginal cyst. Cysts are pockets of fluid, air, or pus that can either be soft or hard. There are many types of cysts. These could be an inclusion cyst (occurs due to trauma or episiotomy), Bartholin cyst (occurs due to blockage of the duct), Mullerian duct cyst (congenital anomaly), or Gartner's duct cyst (asymptomatic cyst). The cyst could be benign or cancerous in very rare cases. Sometimes, the cyst consists of inflammatory cells, embryological remnants, or fluid. The cyst could also be prone to itching and can cause discomfort due to inflammation.
So, I suggest you to follow the instructions mentioned below,
1) A biopsy should be done to exclude malignancy.
2) Condoms should be used to avoid infection.
3) Sit in a warm water bath for ten to fifteen minutes twice daily. This will provide relief from itching.
4) The type of cyst decides the method of treatment. In the case of the Bartholin duct cyst, the cyst should be drained properly to avoid recurrence. Other kinds of cysts also need removal if it causes discomfort, pain, or recurrent infection.
5) Practice good sex hygiene.
6) Also, I suggest you take a tablet of Doxycycline (broad-spectrum antibiotic) 100 milligrams twice daily for seven days if the itching persists. This will reduce the chance of the cyst acquiring infection.
Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent.
I hope this has helped you.
Thanks and regards.
