I have had a discharge smell for over a year. It is something a little fishy. The discharge can be watery. Sometimes the smell is not strong, and sometimes it is. Is it a concern? During sexual intercourse, the smell can be strong, but sometimes there is no smell.

According to what you have described, you have bacterial vaginosis. This is not an infection, but there is an alteration in the normal vaginal flora due to which the normal protective bacteria are reduced in number, and pathogenic bacteria increase, leading to abnormal discharge and smell. Things you need to do include the following. First of all, wear cotton underpants. Do not wash the area repeatedly; only once or twice in a day. Always pat dry the area after using the washroom. Do not use any vaginal washes or pessaries, or cream down there. Treatment includes- Take tablet Secnidazole (5-nitroimidazole) 1 gm two tablets stat. Tab Fluconazole 150 mg one tablet stat. Tab Vizylac rich (Bacillus mesenteric, Clostridium butyricum, Lactobacillus sporogenes, and Streptococcus thermophilus) twice daily for seven days. Keep Candid-CL (Clindamycin and Clotrimazole) tablets per vaginum for three nights. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them and take medications with their consent. This will solve your problem.
