Can yeast infections and hormonal changes cause vaginal discharge?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing a sticky discharge, which I have had many times before due to yeast infections, along with discomfort. Additionally, I have been experiencing a yellow discharge for a long time without any other symptoms. My partner and I have been trying to get pregnant for one year through regular intercourse, but it has not happened yet. I also sometimes experience pain during urination and notice a smell and dark yellow color in my urine. However, I have undergone tests that showed no infections.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern about the pregnancy and vaginal discharge.

Based on the information you provided, you may be experiencing symptoms of vaginal discharge. It can be caused by factors such as infection, hormonal changes, or other underlying medical conditions. Yeast infections, which are caused by a fungus called Candida, can lead to thick, white, and sometimes cottage cheese-like discharge. These infections are common and can be treated with antifungal medication. However, if you have been experiencing yellow discharge without any other symptoms for a long time, this may be due to another underlying medical condition, such as bacterial vaginosis (BV). It is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina. BV can also cause vaginal discharge, but it may be thin and watery in appearance.

It is also important to note that having a sticky discharge or a history of yeast infections does not necessarily mean that you have an ongoing infection or that it is affecting your fertility. Remember, it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health and well-being. If you have any concerns about your symptoms or are experiencing unusual medical conditions, do not hesitate to speak with a gynecologist for guidance and support.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
