After experiencing intense menopausal symptoms, I have a small amount of discharge. Why?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 52-year-old female. I was taking Femoston-Conti for several years. A year back, I had some infrequent light spotting. An ultrasound was taken and I had my endometrial lining present within upper normal range. Then I was referred to a gynecologist. She advised me to have a follow-up by doing an ultrasound and I did it until last year and I found my lining was present within normal range. Then I continued taking Femoston-Conti without any issues. Then I decided to stop using it after a few months. After a week, I started to experience intense menopausal symptoms. I consulted my general practitioner and she advised me to take Femoston-Conti. Yesterday, I noticed a small amount of discharge on my underpants. It was yellow or brown. I do not have any other discharge. Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your history and I understand your concern. Your symptoms occur due to hormonal imbalance. But you have vaginal discharge. It can occur due to infection or menopausal symptoms. You can do a pelvic ultrasound to know your endometrial thickness and other causes of vaginal discharge. Do thyroid profile and hemoglobin test. Have an eye on your discharge. Keep the area dry and clean. Wear cotton undergarments. If you have vaginal discharge persistently, then you may require further evaluation and management.
