Is the presence of intramural uterine fibroids a severe issue?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 45-years-old and weigh 72 kilograms. During ultrasound scanning, it was noticed that there are small intramural uterine fibroids. As a result, I have been facing the problem of heavy bleeding for four days during my menstrual cycle.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

During menstruation, regular contractions occur after bleeding to stop heavy bleeding. In a fibroid uterus, this mechanism is hampered; that is why you have heavy bleeding. If it persists even after treatment for a long time, the fibroids should be removed surgically.
