What are the ways to diagnose and treat urinary tract infections?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing a urinary infection and itching, which started about nine months after having sex with my husband. I am trying to get pregnant, but the itching and discomfort are concerning.

Could this be related to fertility, or is there another cause for these symptoms?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) affects your urinary tract, including bladder cystitis, urethritis, or kidney infection. UTI may be treated with antibiotics, but not always needed.

Symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI) may include:

  1. Pain or a burning sensation when peeing (dysuria).

  2. Needing to pee more often than usual.

  3. Needing to pee more often than usual during the night (nocturia).

  4. Needing to pee suddenly or more urgently than usual.

  5. Urine that looks cloudy.

  6. Blood in your urine (hematuria).

  7. Pain in your lower abdomen or back, just under the ribs.

  8. A high temperature, or feeling hot and shivery.

  9. A very low temperature below 36 degree Celsius.

  10. Your pee may also be dark or smelly. If this is your only symptom, it might be because you have not been drinking enough water.

Medication :

  1. Tablet Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice a day for seven days.

  2. Cran max sachet twice a day for 20 days.

  3. Apply Clotrimazole vaginal cream in the genital area at night before you sleep.

I hope I have answered your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
