If I have cramping and a late period after unprotected sex, does that mean I am pregnant?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 21 years old. I had unprotected sex three days before my period, and when my period came, it was late, and my flow was lighter than usual and was shorter now. My period is late again, but I am cramping and have been for a couple of days but no period. Should I be worried that I might be pregnant? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Did you have any unprotected intercourse after the last periods? Reply with details. As last period already occurred after intercourse. No chance of pregnancy in the previous month. But for this month, If no unprotected intercourse happened after the earlier periods. Delay in periods may be due to some hormone disturbance due to stress. Wait for a few days for periods. Or I suggest you take tablet Primolut-N (Norethisterone 5 mg) one tablet twice a day for five days. Periods will occur within a few days of stopping the tablet Primolut-N.

I hope this helps.
