I had sex two days before my period. How to avoid pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 21 years old. I am getting a little bit anxious about getting pregnant. I have a partner and we had sex three times, yesterday and the first two times he used condoms but we got run out and we use a pull out method. It is like two days before I got my period and my tracker says that I have a low chance of getting pregnant. I want to know how can I avoid myself from getting pregnant? Is condom is hundred percent safe and effective? Even though I am not taking any pills right now, is the ovulation or fertile app is accurate? I am afraid to go to a gynecologist clinic because someone might recognize me and they might tell it to my mother.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. What you are saying is correct that chances of pregnancy are relatively less when the period is about to start, like two days in your case. And the condom is pretty reliable (98%). Pull out method is one of the most unreliable methods of avoiding pregnancy as precum contains sperms which are enough to cause pregnancy if someone is really unlucky. If the pull out method was yesterday, you can buy any emergency contraceptive pill like Unwanted 72 and you can reduce your chances of pregnancy. If you are unable to buy that also then you may get pregnant and indicators for that will be delayed period.
