Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex this morning, but I am not sure if my partner ejaculated inside me, and I want to avoid getting pregnant. What should I take to prevent pregnancy?

Also, my period is expected to start soon. Could you please let me know if I am currently on my safe days? Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If you have had unprotected sex and are worried about potential pregnancy, emergency contraception, commonly referred to as the morning-after pill, might be a suitable option. It is crucial to understand that this form of contraception is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sexual intercourse.

You may consider taking the i-Pill emergency contraceptive pill, which contains 'Levonorgestrel', a progestin (female hormone) used for emergency contraception. It is recommended to take the pill within 12 hours, and it should not be delayed beyond 72 hours (three days) after engaging in unprotected sex or experiencing contraceptive failure.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
